Our Mission

Total Health by Elizabeth is a Self Care company that teaches Health Education to corporations and individuals. We are consultants to our clientele by guiding them through the process of behavioral change with education on best health practices and the latest research. It is the mission of Total Health by Elizabeth to educate our clientele not only how to obtain optimal health, but how to make healthier choices without disrupting our client’s lives, and have them do it on their own.

Our Philosophy

When it comes down to it, we exercise and eat right not so that we can live longer, but rather that we can have a better quality of life. Total Health by Elizabeth does that through Education, Education, and Education.

Everyone’s lives are so busy. Since optimal health is a continuum, not an absolute, we teach folks how to incorporate healthy changes in their lives that make sense for them. We believe that when educated about their health, nutrition and bodies, people will make better choices. Since there’s no such thing as a perfect diet or exercise routine, we encourage everyone to make only those changes that fit into their lifestyle and family’s routine. It’s not about overhauling your life and taking drastic measures; it’s about making slow, gradual, sustainable change.

We teach clients what they need to know, allow them to incorporate their new behavior into their lives, and meet back when they need some fine tuning or want to take the next step in their journey of health. Although relationships with our clientele will last many years, initial engagements are ideally less than 6 months, and check-up sessions, no more than 3 months. We want our clients to be able to do it on their own – not be dependent on us forever.

Elizabeth’s Story

Total Health by Elizabeth was founded in 2004 by Elizabeth Sherman. Elizabeth is a Health Educator. She holds certifications from American Counsel on Exercise for Personal Training, Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant, NESTA Certified Sports Nutrition Coach, and is a Licensed Wellness Coach from Wellcoaches, Inc.

In the spring of 2001, Elizabeth’s mother passed away from Breast Cancer. Although just starting an exercise routine the year prior, Elizabeth had continually struggled with her weight. It was through researching Breast Cancer causes that she finally understood the possible long term health impact of her poor eating habits and excess body weight as they are major contributors to diseases such as Heart Disease, Diabetes, Hypertension and Cancer.

Although it took a few years and plenty of mistakes, making gradual changes to her lifestyle choices that allowed her to go from a 22 dress size to a 6.

In the winter of 2003, working as a Business Analyst for a software company, Elizabeth realized that her true calling in life was to educate and inspire others to lead healthier lives. “If I can prevent just one person from losing their life to cancer, I’ll have succeeded in making the world a better place.”

Elizabeth Sherman is a certified Wellness Coach, Personal Trainer and Sports Nutritionist. Elizabeth has over 10 years experience training adults; her philosophy being that education is essential to changing our behaviors. Elizabeth began her career in the computer field, but it was through her own pursuit of fitness that she found her passion in exercise and nutrition, and chose to change careers to total health and wellness. Her approach to wellness is one that focuses on balance & making wellness work within the confines of our lives through incrementally small behavior changes. “If changes are too rigidly different from where we are today, we aren’t going to stick with the new behaviors (healthy eating or adding activity into our day). If we don’t feel comfortable, then we are more likely to lapse into old behaviors.”
